GUWAHATI: A Special Task Force (STF) team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak, successfully conducted an operation on January 14, 2025, that resulted in the interception of a vehicle linked to the notorious Touthing narcotics family from Churachandpur, Manipur.
The operation was based on credible intelligence about the transportation of illegal drugs from Mizoram to local peddlers in the Hajo and Goreswar areas.
The intercepted vehicle was a white Scorpio with the registration number AS 11 N 3141. It was stopped in the early morning hours at Amingaon. Two persons were caught in the vehicle: Onkhogin Touthing, driver, and Thangkhaelien, co-driver. During a detailed search of the vehicle, there were 94 soap boxes with heroin kept secretly in the secret compartments in the vehicle were found. The total consignment of seized narcotics weighed about 1kg and 128 grams, with an estimated ₹9 crore at street level.
After this major seizure, law enforcing authorities arrested two more suspects who were named as Nurul Hussain of Dampur, Hajo and Bitul Ali of Goreswar. They are reported to be associated with the supply chain of the drugs. All the arrested persons are now being prosecuted as the legal process has already begun, besides continuing the investigation into the larger drug trafficking network.
