SOUTH SALMARA: A routine naka check conducted by the Fakirganj Police Station in the Sonapara area of Assam's South Salmara led to the interception of a suspicious bike bearing registration number AS 28 0806.
The police seized 288 capsules suspected to be drugs, a mobile phone, Rs. 2,030 in cash and a Bajaj Discover motorcycle. Investigations are underway to uncover further details about the drugs and those involved in the illegal activity.
Meanwhile, in a significant crackdown against drug trafficking, Golaghat Police, acting on a tip-off, conducted an operation under Dergaon Police Station and seized 74.79 grams of heroin concealed in a haystack. The raid also led to the recovery of Rs. 65,330 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug dealings.
One drug peddler was arrested, and the authorities seized a vehicle and multiple mobile handsets from the accused. Legal action was initiated, with further investigations underway to uncover the network's supply chain.
Earlier this week, in Bongaigaon, a team led by SI (UB) Sagar Sah intercepted an e-rickshaw and seized seven vials of a substance suspected to be heroin, weighing 9.33 grams. The driver, identified as Rakesh Hussain, was arrested, and legal proceedings commenced.
In another operation, Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF) intercepted a vehicle in North Guwahati’s Amingaon and seized 600 grams of heroin, valued at around Rs. 4 crore. The drugs were smuggled from Mizoram and hidden in a secret compartment of a truck. Investigations are ongoing to track down those responsible for the trafficking network.
