GUWAHATI: Meenakshi Goswami, the Principal of Chandranath Higher Secondary School in Sonitpur district of Assam, was conferred with the prestigious National Awards to Teachers 2022 by President Droupadi Murmu, on the occasion of Teachers' Day on Monday.
Meenakshi Goswami was one of the 46 teachers across India who were conferred with the award by the President. Goswami received the national award for her contribution towards the profession.
Four other teachers from the Northeast were also in the list of awardees. They are- Mimi Yhoshii (Nagaland), Nongmaithem Gautam Singh (Manipur), Gamchi Timre R Marak (Meghalaya) and Santosh Nath (Tripura).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with the winners of National Awards to Teachers, including Meenakshi Goswami from Assam, at his residence at 4.30 pm on Monday.
The purpose of the National Awards to Teachers is to celebrate and honour the unique contributions of some of the finest teachers in the country, said a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
The annual National Awards to Teachers accords public recognition to meritorious and deserving teachers serving in elementary and secondary schools on Teachers' Day.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the prestigious awards to the selected awardees at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, on the occasion of Teachers' Day today.
A rigorous and transparent three-stage online process was undertaken to select a total of 46 teachers from across the country for the awards this year.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Education organizes a function at the Vigyan Bhawan on September 5 every year to present the awards to the best teachers of the country.
The teachers selected for the awards this year are from Assam,Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra and Telangana, among others.
Teachers' Day is celebrated across the nation in the memory of former President Dr. S Radhakrishnan, a philosopher-author and India's second President, who was born on this day in 1888.
The tradition of celebrating Teachers' Day began in 1962 to honour the former President for his contributions to the field of education, and teachers all over the country.
