Guwahati: A teacher in Assam's Dhemaji district was suspended for proposing to a student at the training centre.
As per reports, the teacher was affiliated with the centrally sponsored Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojna (DDU-GKY).
The teacher named Manoj Kumar, in true filmy style got down to one knee in the middle of the classroom in front of other trainees and proposed to the girl. While doing the same, some students present there filmed the dramatic moment on their smartphones and soon the clip went viral.
Following this, the officials concerned took cognizance of the same and fired Kumar while the girl student was also suspended.
Speaking on the same, one of the officials at the training centre asserted that they were aware of certain things but didn't expect him to go to this extent.
''As soon as the matter came to our notice, we took action against him, the girl, and those who shot the video,'' he added.
DDU-GKY aims to provide monthly wages equal to or above the regular minimum wage in jobs to poor rural youth. This is one of the initiatives taken by the Ministry of Rural Development under the Government of India to promote rural livelihood.
