MORAN: In a distressing case of moral policing in Moran, located in Eastern Assam's Dibrugarh district, four youths were subjected to a brutal assault by an enraged mob. Mistakenly accused of being cattle smugglers, the victims sustained severe injuries during the attack.
The individuals, identified as Pankaj Barua, Subal Gogoi, Apurba Gogoi, and Manoj Changmai, were employees of the telecom department. They were in the Holmari Path area performing official duties when the mob targeted them without warning.
In addition to physically assaulting the workers, the mob vandalized the vehicle they were traveling in. The victims also alleged that the assailants looted their belongings, including mobile phones, a gold chain, and cash, adding to their ordeal.
Local police have registered a case in connection with the incident, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, a heartbreaking mob-lynching incident in Abadi village, Bongaigaon district, Assam, led to the death of 16-year-old Iyasin Ali on Sunday night. The teenager succumbed to severe injuries sustained during the violent confrontation, which began as a dispute over a stray goat and quickly escalated. The incident has drawn nationwide attention and calls for justice.
The conflict started when a goat belonging to Iyasin’s father, Gazir Ali, strayed into a neighboring farm owned by Alam Ali. Although the families initially resolved the matter, tensions reignited later that evening. While Iyasin was on his way to tuition, he was confronted by Alam Ali and his associates, leading to a heated argument.
The situation spiraled out of control as more individuals, including members of Iyasin’s family, became involved, culminating in a violent altercation.
