TAMULPUR: In finding a temporary solution to the problems faced by the local people, a bamboo bridge was flagged off for use by the public on the occasion of Saptami of Durga Puja.
In order to support the local people who need to cross the Matanga River on a regular basis, a bamboo bridge was constructed by the local people. The bridge was formally inaugurated by the former Member of Parliament from the region, Emanuel Mosahari. The people using the Tamulpur - Nagrijuli-Kumarikata route will be hugely benefiting from this bridge.
The people of 13-14 villages of the region constructed this temporary structure using their own savings because of the lack of any proper bridge on the route. It can be noted that the floods had washed away the RCC bridge that was on this river and triggered problems for the large number of school and college students and office goers to reach their destinations. The people of these villages used to take massive risks in order to cross the river.
Previously, an accident on the temporary bridge led to the death of one person and the injury of another on Wednesday. The incident occurred in the Seleghat locality of Mariani on the night of Wednesday. An RCC bridge in the Tengabari area was damaged around five months back so the locals were forced to construct a bamboo bridge to ensure that people could continue to cross the river. But on Wednesday night, a two-wheeler with two people onboard fell through the bridge into the ground below. The incident led to the immediate demise of one person while the other suffered severe injuries.
The person who died because of the incident was identified as Achau Bauri and the person who was injured was identified as Suren Das. He was shifted to a medical facility for better medical care.
