SILCHAR: In a tragic road accident, three members of a family— a father, mother and their 7-year-old child—lost their lives, while two other minors of the same family are battling for their lives in Assam's Cachar district on Thursday. The accident occurred at around 3 pm in the Ramnagar area near Tarapur, Silchar.
The family, residents of Srikona, were travelling in an autorickshaw from ISBT towards Tarapur when a speeding, soil-laden truck from the opposite direction rammed into their vehicle with brute force.
Nejarul Haque, his wife Afsana Begum, and their 7-year-old son Tamim Ahmed unfortunately died on the spot. Meanwhile, at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, their two other children, daughter Tajmina Akhter and son Shamim Ahmed, are still fighting for their lives.
Following the incident, enraged locals demanding better traffic regulation and faster emergency response attempted to block the road in protest. However, the police stepped in to manage the situation and restore normalcy.
The bodies were recovered after the police and CRPF personnel arrived at the scene and facilitated their transfer to the hospital. With preliminary reports indicating reckless driving as a possible cause, an investigation has been launched into the accident by the police. Further details are awaited.
