DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of the History Department of Doomdooma College, a Commemorative Lecture on Tilok Neog, who was a former vice-principal of the college, was held at the conference hall of the college on Saturday.
In the beginning, Head of the department (HoD) Manimala Bora welcomed the guests while Vice-Principal Dr Deepak Kumar Mahanta inaugurated a handwritten magazine covering the writings of the students of the department. The programme was moderated by Associate Professor Madhurya Mahanta. Former HoD Khemanath Gogoi spoke on the life and works of his former colleague Tilok Neog.
The main topic of the commemorative lecture was ‘The Place of Women in Medieval Assam’. Dr Minoti Sarmah, former HoD, History Department, Digboi Women’s College, spoke elaborately on the subject. Associate Professor Madhurya Mahanta, who moderated the whole programme, beautifully rendered a song tuned by him and composed by Gautam Medhi in memory of late Tilok Neog. For this, Gautam Medhi was felicitated in the meeting.
Other faculty members like Dwijen Sarma, Anju Konwar, and Gayatri Medhi Mahanta also reminisced on their association with Late Neog. Besides the students, the programme was also attended by faculty members Tinamoni Rajkumari and Dr Padmakshi Kakati. The whole event came alive with presentation of songs and poems in between lectures, especially the song presented by student Garima Bharali which enthralled the audience The event came to an end with an offering of vote of thanks by Assistant Professor Dwijen Sarmah.
