Assam: Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha’s Digboi conference concludes

The two-day long 22nd conference of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha at India Club, Digboi, under the auspices of Digboi Xahitya Sewa Samiti came to a close with holding of open session.

DOOMDOOMA: The two-day long 22nd conference of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX) that began on Saturday at India Club, Digboi, under the auspices of Digboi Xahitya Sewa Samiti came to a close on Sunday with holding of open session in the afternoon.

On Saturday, the last executive of TZXX and a special programme on women ‘Akash’ inaugurated by Dr Meena Devi Baruah were held at the venue. On the second day, the programme got underway with the hoisting of the flag by the outgoing President Mohan Moran followed by the lighting of lamp and Smriti Tarpan by Gunindra Nath Gogoi, President of the reception committee.

The delegate session held under the presidency of Mohan Moran was inaugurated by former President TZXX Arjun Baruah. The Secretarial Report and the audited accounts presented by Secretary Manjit Gohain were passed by the House. The meeting elected Mohan Moran as District Representative to Assam Xahitya Xabha (AXX).

The open session began just after the newly-elected President Lambeswar Chetia was welcomed by Gayan and Bayan and brought to the meeting place ceremonially. Just after President, Reception Committee Gunindra Nath Gogoi welcomed the guests, outgoing President Mohan Moran formally handed over the charge to the President-elect Lambeswar Chetia. The open session was inaugurated by Dr Girish Handique, Vice-President, AXX. President Chetia then delivered his Presidential address. In his speech President Chetia mentioned that it was due to the effort of Assam Xahitya Xabha that the Assam Government passed ‘The Assamese Language Learning Act, 2020’ and received the approval of His Highness the Governor of Assam.

As per new education policy, the Karbi, Deori, Rabha, Chaoutali, Dimasa, Miching, and other ethnic languages of Assam also got the benefits of becoming the medium of instruction up to primary education level. At a later stage, learning of Assamese language has been made compulsory for them and to other communities speaking Hindi or any other languages. It has paved the way of introduction of state language Assamese in the Kendriya Vidyalayas. The life of a language depends on its uses. So there is a great responsibility on the Asam Xahitya Xabha, he said.

Besides the souvenir of TZXX, the souvenir published by the reception committee and five other books were also inaugurated in the meeting.

The Noni Neog Commemorative Award, consisting of chelengchador, citation, memento and cash of Rs ten thousand was presented to the octogenerian, pious lady Gayatri Goswami of Doomdooma. The best organiser’s award was presented to Deben Deka, President, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, while the best branch of the district was given to Sadiya Sakha Xahitya Xabha. Gopal Chandra Das was chosen for the special award of inducting considerable number of life members to the AXX.

The awards were given away by the distinguished and invited guests present. The open session was attended by former Vice- President Dipen Bora, General Secretary Manjit Gohain, Reception Committee’s Treasurer Anil Dutta, Vice-President Binanda Konwar, Secretary Pranab Jyoti Bora besides former presidents and secretaries of TZXX.
