Assam: Traffic Restrictions Issued for Durga Puja Celebrations in Hojai

District Magistrate, Hojai, exercised the powers conferred upon him Under Section 144 of the Cr.P.C. to pass the prohibitory orders.

HOJAI: In order the ensure the smooth movement of traffic during the Durga Puja season, the district admistration of the Hojai district has issued a set of regulations for the festive season. This order was released on Friday by the District Magistrate of Hojai.

The order mentioned that with the possibility of thousands of devotees, both drivers and pedestrians, moving through the multiple puja pandals and marketplaces of the region, there is a very high chance of heavy traffic movement in the areas under the Hojai Municipality, thus affecting the smooth movement of traffic on the roads. These conditions also increase the possibility of accidents on the roads of the region.

Lachit Kumar Das, ACS, District Magistrate, Hojai, exercised the powers conferred upon him Under Section 144 of the Cr.P.C. to pass the prohibitory orders.

Under this order, all types of movement of vehicles including bicycles, motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, e- rickshaws, light motor vehicles, mechanised motor vehicles and heavy motor vehicles except Police, Fire Emergency and Ambulance services are strictly prohibited during the 04:00 PM to 11:30 PM period in a 500 meter radius of all Puja Mandaps in Municipal areas.

It also prohibited that there should not be any shops and vendors within a periphery of 100 meters in case of Big Puja Mandaps and 50 mtrs in case of Small Puja Mandaps for easy movement of the public. Vehicles will not be allowed to be parked in the 500-meter periphery of any Puja Mandaps during the non-prohibited time from 04:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

This order came into force with effect from 21 October and will stay so till to 23 October at midnight Any violation of this prohibitory order will be punishable under section 188 IPC.
