Our beloved father Radhika Ranjan Choudhury, left for his heavenly abode on July 1. He personified a unique blend of toughness, encapsulating an inherently loving and caring personality within. Known across the State during his service career for his honesty and commitment to delivering tangible benefits to beneficiaries of welfare schemes of the Government, he leaves behind an indelible mark in the memory of many of his admirers.
Born in Shillong to Rajani Kanta Choudhury and Niroda Bala Choudhury, he completed his early education in Shillong and thereafter proceeded to Kolkata for his Graduation in Civil Engineering from the erstwhile Bengal Engineering College and Masters in Public Health Engineering from the All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health in Kolkata. He served in various capacities to the Government of Assam till his retirement as Commissioner and Secretary of the Public Health Engineering department. Infact, he was responsible for nurturing and giving shape to the state Public Health Engineering Department to its present form from a very nascent stage during his record tenure of 18 years as the Chief Engineer of the Department. Widely recognized for his expertise in Environmental and Public Health Engineering, post-retirement also he continued to remain engaged in various capacities including as Chairman of the Assam Pollution Control Board .
His relatives, friends and colleagues will all miss the warmth of his affection, which manifested itself even in the midst of the toughness and grit with which he tried to impose his high standards of discipline and moral standards. But we also draw satisfaction from the fact that till the very end, he lived a life ‘ King Size’, keeping himself involved and updated on all technical developments in this age of digital transformation and reaping the benefits of such innovations even at the age of 86 years.
On this day of his Adya Shraddha, we pray to the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
