MANGALDOI: In a significant breakthrough, police have arrested eight individuals linked to a vehicle theft racket following the recovery of a stolen truck. Ajoy Barman, the son of late Bhagaban Barman from Shantipur Mangaldai, filed an FIR regarding his truck, which had been missing for over a month. The vehicle, registered as AS13AC 5614, was last parked near the Sai Baba Mandir parking area.
The authorities moved quickly after an FIR was filed, seizing a recovery van (Reg No: AS01Y 4088) suspected to have been employed in the theft. Based on information collected during the investigation, police raided a dump yard in 13 Mile, Meghalaya. There, they recovered the mangled remains of the stolen truck, which had been placed on another vehicle (Reg No: HR58B 7366). The motor and engine of the stolen truck were recovered by investigators from this location.
The arrested suspects hail from different locations, such as Md. Rashidul Alom from Nalbari, Noor Hussain from Satgaon in Guwahati, and some others from Haryana and Bongaigaon. The police are yet to investigate and learn about the scale of the vehicle theft racket and other suspects involved in the racket. The case reflects ongoing worries about car theft in the region and attempts by the police to deter such criminal activity.
