DHUBRI: Two individuals, identified as Gobinda Barman and Chandan Ray, were arrested in Dhubri, Assam, on Tuesday night for possessing a large quantity of counterfeit Indian currency notes. Both suspects are residents of Matiapara village in Kokrajhar district.
The arrests were made in Haripur, under the jurisdiction of Tamarhat Police Station. Authorities recovered two fake currency notes, 1,500 sheets of blank paper, and chemicals believed to be used for producing counterfeit money. A scooter reportedly used in their operations was also confiscated.
The seized items have been secured for further investigation as law enforcement works to uncover the larger counterfeit currency network and identify other individuals potentially involved in the operation.
Meanwhile, earlier last month, In a joint operation conducted by the police along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), fake currency notes amounting to a total of Rs. 1.05 lakh has been seized in Assam's Hailakandi district.
The operations have been conducted in the area of Abdullahpur Part II falling under the jurisdiction of Lala Police Station. During the operation, a local betel nut trader identified as Abul Hussain Barbhuiya was arrested with 210 duplicate Rs. 500 notes. The operation was led by a team from the 147th Battalion of CRPF, stationed in Kashipur, Silchar.
