MANGALDAI: In connection with the firearms training during a training session of the Prabin Togadiya-led Rashtriya Bajrang Dal in Mangaldai Maharishi Vidya Mandir (MMVM), a private school in Mangaldai, Mangaldai Police have arrested two accused persons involved in this unauthorized arms drill.
They are Bijoy Ghosh of Ward No. 4 of Mangaldai town and one Gopal Boro of Dimakuchi in the Udalguri district. Both the accused persons have been booked in connection with Mangaldai PS case No. 357/2023 under section 153(A)/34 of Indian Penal Code. On their production on Wednesday evening, the court remanded Gopal Boro to police custody for one day and Bijoy Ghosh to judicial custody in Mangaldai District Jail. Earlier, though police had arrested Principal of MMVM Hemanta Payeng and employee Ratan Das, they were released on bail on Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, all the office bearers and activists of Rastriya Bajrang Dal here in Darrang are absconding. The police have stepped up its operation to nab prime accused of the firearm training, namely Abhijit Ghosh, Subrata Das and other activists of Rastriya Bajrang Dal.
On the other hand, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Nabadweep Changmai lodged two FIRs at Mangaldai Police Station on August 1 and August 2. In the first FIR, he requested the police to initiate legal action on organizing a training camp at MMVM by the chairman of Bajrang Dal without obtaining permission from the district administration.
In the second FIR lodged at Mangaldai Police Station on August 2, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Nabadweep Changmai has requested the police to file an FIR against the chairman of MMVM Zoii Nath Sarma as he accorded permission for the firearm training in the school without intimating the district administration. It was also mentioned that in the body of the application filed by Abhijit Ghosh on July 13, the Principal of MMVM had forwarded it to the chairman of MMVM for according permission for the training camp.
However, on being contacted, chairman of MMVM, Dr Zoii Nath Sarma strongly refuted the allegation of granting permission for the firearms training camp in the school. Rather, the applicant Abhijit Ghosh applied for permission to organize training on yoga, awareness on drug abuse and work culture only.
