GUWAHATI: In a quick operation, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Basistha Police Station arrested two experienced thieves in Bhetapara's Vidyamandir Path.
The suspects, Nur Hussain (28) from Mayong and Abdul Hafijul Islam (25) from Tarabari, were found with stolen items, including iron rods and a motorcycle.
The police arrested the suspects after they got a tip about suspicious activity. They intercepted a Tata Ace vehicle (AS01QC4913) that had stolen items. Upon inspection, they recovered eight bundles of 16mm iron rods, two bundles of 8mm rods, and a motorcycle (AS01DX7346), all thought to be stolen.
The two men have been arrested, and legal action has started against them. The police are now looking into whether they are involved in other thefts in the city.
Meanwhile, The police had arrested several thieves and other miscreants from different areas in Guwahati on January 24.
Dispur Police had intercepted a stolen Mahindra Thar car (24BH2670-B) from Sarumotoria and one Jiyaur Rahman hailing from Imphal. The vehicle had been stolen from Amar Colony in Delhi.
A team of Jorabat police had arrested a burglar, Dipankar Das (26) of Sonapur, after he had been caught with a stolen impact wrench at the 12 Mile Area near Jorabat. Another team from Basistha PS had arrested a thief, Suman Ali (21) of Hajo, after he had been caught with three packs of stolen welding rods in the Sagalpara area of Lokhra.
