Assam: UGC grants autonomous status to Mangaldai College

Mangaldai College, founded in 1951, granted autonomous status by UGC, bringing joy to the college community and Darrang’s intellectual society.

MANGALDAI: Mangaldai College, a premier educational institution on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra, established in 1951, has been granted autonomous college status by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This recognition filled the college community and the intellectual society of Darrang district with joy.

The UGC vide an official communique announced that this autonomous status was granted for a period of 10 years, from the 2025-2026 academic year to the 2034-2035 academic year.

Expressing his reaction to this recognition, Mangaldai Legislator Basanta Das said, “This is a matter of great pride for us. We will strive to the best of our ability to elevate Mangaldai College to the status of an independent university.”

The Principal of Mangaldai College, Dr Kamala Kanta Borah, along with the college’s management and development committee, former general secretaries of the college students’ union, Bhargab Kumar Das, Pratap Bordoloi, Hitesh Hazarika, Ganesh Dutta, Secretary of Mangaldai Media Circle Mayukh Goswami, Darrang district committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad, and the All Darrang District Students’ Union, among others, expressed their delight at this recognition by the UGC.
