In another news, the Assam government is collaborating with the Ministry of Defence to establish a defence corridor connecting areas near Guwahati to Nagaon. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative, positioning Assam as a key hub for infrastructure and industry.
Speaking at a roadshow and a roundtable with investors, diplomats from 36 countries, and key stakeholders ahead of the ‘Advantage Assam Summit 2.0,’ Sarma highlighted the logistical challenges faced by the armed forces.
He noted inefficiencies in repairing armored tanks and other equipment, which are currently transported to the mainland for servicing. "With the largest deployments of Indian armed forces in the Northeast and Kashmir, Assam is ideally suited to host a major defence corridor," Sarma stated.
During his keynote, the Chief Minister unveiled ambitious plans for Rs 1 lakh crore in infrastructure projects. These include three new Brahmaputra bridges, a satellite city near Guwahati developed with Singapore's expertise, and a railway line connecting Guwahati to Gelephu, Bhutan.
Assam is experiencing 12.5% annual growth, with significant progress in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. To further boost investment, the state plans to launch a Rs 25,000 crore production-linked incentive (PLI) fund, underlining its commitment to economic growth and development.
