MARGHERITA: Veer Lachit Sena, Assam Lekhapani Jagun Regional committee and Digboi Regional committee today staged a two hours sit-in demonstrate at North Margherita Rangamancha in protest against the attack on Assamese culture, tradition, and heritage in the name of religion.

Members of Veer Lachit Sena, Assam Digboi Regional Committee and Lekhapani Jagun Regional committee shouted various slogans against the BJP-led Government of Assam, as on January 29, a Jain devotee Digambar saint held a naked march with his followers in the middle of Jorhat town which created turmoil all over Assam. Members of Veer Lachit Sena and local residents of Jorhat protested against it but unfortunately Assam Police arrested and sent them to judicial custody.

Biplob Gogoi, General Secretary of Veer Lachit Sena, Assam Tinsukia district committee said that it is very unfortunate that Assamese culture, tradition, language, rites, and rituals were many a time attacked by outsiders which the Assamese people protested against. Gogoi said, “We have submitted a memorandum to the Margherita Co-District Commissioner and demand that within 24 hours, all the protesters must be released unconditionally and Jain devotee Digambar saint must get legal punishment under the law.”

Members of Veer Lachit Sena said that such incidents are attempts to tarnish the image of Assamese culture, tradition, and heritage and threatened to continue strong opposition against them.
