TINSUKIA: The 15-day campaign on Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan was launched at Tinsukia district on Thursday with flagging off two ‘Krishi Raths’ that were displayed with materials and models related to improved agricultural technologies.
The ceremonial inaugural programme was held at Tengapani Gaon Panchayat premises in presence of former minister and local MLA Sanjoy Kishan and other dignitaries. The campaign to create awareness among farmers about modern agricultural technologies, new crop varieties, government schemes related to agriculture and allied sector was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tinsukia under guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi and with support of ICAR-ATARI, Guwahati and Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and executed in the district in collaboration with District Administration, District Agriculture Office, District Veterinary Office, District Fishery Office, Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) and other research stations of the district.
The programme was started with the opening remark by Dr Hemchandra Saikia, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Tinsukia, and was inaugurated by Sanjoy Kishan, MLA Tinsukia & Chairman of State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation, Assam. Addressing the gathering, Kishan urged the farmers to participate in the campaign and to gather information and knowledge related to modern agricultural practices.
Among others who also addressed the gathering were Rajit Dutta, District Agriculture Officer, Dr Manuj Chowhan, and Dr Brigu Kumar Neog. About 500 farmers from across the district participated in the programme while some of them also interacted with the scientists and officers during the farmers-scientist-officer interaction programme. Dr Sarodee Baruah of KVK Tinsukia moderated the programme.
