TINSUKIA:  The fire incident at a wedding house on December 15 in which 7 family members sustained severe burn injuries took a bizarre turn after preliminary police investigation revealed to be a case of homicide while the husband who allegedly sprinkled inflammable material on his wife died at AMCH on Monday night.

Based on the statements of family members, Additional Superintendent of Police Tinsukia Mrinmoy Das said on Tuesday the incident was a culmination of family dispute between Kartik Prasad (Sah) and his wife Rekha Devi who were seeking divorce for past 3 years. Kartik Prasad frequently visited from Jharkhand on previous occasions and used to quarrel with his wife. On December 15 Kartik Prasad arrived from Jharkhand to attend a wedding ceremony of his nephew and soon engaged in heated arguments with his wife and allegedly attempted to set her ablaze after pouring inflammable material on her body and in the process Kartik Prasad too received severe burn injuries and succumbed at AMCH, said ASP adding that the investigation would continue once the injured family members were recuperated.
