GOLAGHAT: A wild elephant was found dead among the tea plants in a tea estate located in the Madhabpur region which fall under the Bokiyal forest division of the Golaghat district of the state.
The reason for the death of the wild elephant has not been ascertained yet by the authorities. A forest official of the Bokiyal forest division mentioned that they were doing rounds till about 2 AM at night before heading back to their camp and they did not notice anything unusual. But around 5:30 AM they came back to the sport after receiving calls from the local people and discovered the dead elephant.
He also added that the reason for the death of the elephant has not been known yet and an expert team including veterinary doctors were on their way. Only when the doctors conduct the autopsy on the dead animal, will the reason for death be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the local people have mentioned that a herd of wild elephants was spotted roaming in the region in the past few days. The locals also mentioned that the dead elephant must have been a part of the same herd and separated from the herd.
In yet another incident of human-animal conflict, an 8-year-old perished in a wild elephant attack in the Numaligarh region of the state. According to reports, the house that the child was in, was completely destroyed by the elephants in the incident. The identity of the eight-year-old boy was revealed to be Ruhit Kumar. While his parents Sanjeev Kumar and Geeta Kumar were also injured in the incident. The incident occurred in the Shyamraipur Barshali village in the Morongi locality of Numaligarh.
Speaking about the incident, a local resident said, “The incident took place late at night on Sunday. The family had gone to sleep as it was raining and there was no electricity. The elephants completely destroyed the house and the child dies in the incident. While the mother broke her leg, the father sustained injuries on his leg. There was no electricity and no mobile network, so they could not call for help and the nearby people came to know about the incident later.”
