BOKO: In a tragic incident, villagers of the Gadhoputa village in Boko barely survived from an attack by wild elephants on Saturday midnight. According to the locals, three wild elephants entered the Gadhoputa village perhaps in search of food. However, the elephants demolished four houses in the village which belonged to Milan Rabha, Chandra Kanta Rabha, Sambhu Basnet, and Ananta Boro. The incident happened at midnight when everyone in the village was sleeping. The members of all four families barely survived the incident.
Ashok Rabha, Councillor of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC), raised concern over the incident. Rabha assured that RHAC will help those poor families and also seek help from the state government for them. Rabha also alleged that although it was only two kilometers from the Bondapara forest range to the incident site, the forest officials did not come to the place even after around twelve hours. Rabha urged, “This is not the first time that the forest department did not do their job properly for both humans and elephants. The state government should find solutions to decrease the human-elephant conflicts which are very common in Assam nowadays.”
