Assam: Will make Sonkosh Bathou Kheraishali a Heritage Site, says Hagrama Mohilary

KOKRAJHAR: Former chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary on Saturday attended the 10th historic Sonkosh Bathou-Kherai religious festival and 8th convention of Dularai Gudi Bathou Afad near the River Sonkosh, West Bengal border in Kokrajhar district and offered prayer. The annual Bathou-Kherai festival is being organized jointly by the Dularai Gudi Bathou Gouthum, Mainao Afad and Dularai Oja Afad from February 14.

Addressing before the Bathou devotees in the social discussion on the practice of Bathouism on 2nd day, former chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary said Bathou was the primary religion of the Bodos which is deeply connected with the Bodo culture, tradition and believe. He said Bathou was also the prime identity of the Bodos and it is very important to preserve its tradition and value.

Mohilary assured that he will take special emphasis to make Sonkosh Bathou-Kheraishali a heritage site for visitors and preservation of Bathouism. He called upon all to protect and embrace Bathouism for preservation of Primary identity of the Bodos.

Meanwhile, the Dularai Bathou Gouthum has extended its gratitude to the Executive Council of BTC for approving the move to include Bathou as separate religious identity.
