Guwahati: A lady in Assam's Dhakuakhana region of Lakhimpur district was expelled from her village for a period of 12 years for allegedly having 'illicit relationship'.

According to reports, after she was reportedly found having many illegal connections outside of her marriage, a 'kangaroo court' of village headmen voted to banish her and her family on Tuesday.

Locals said that the lady was interested in illegal affairs because her spouse lived outside the village of Dighala Chapori in the vicinity. The locals allegedly caught her red-handed on multiple occasions and cautioned her about her activities.

In another case in Nagaon, a married lady from Assam's Nagaon area is said to have fled her house 25 times. According to the woman's father-in-law, she has 'eloped' with other males 20-25 times since her marriage.

Notably, she has recently returned home, and her husband has stated that he is prepared to 'welcome her.' The mother and her husband, who lives in Central Assam's Dhing Lahkar hamlet, have three children. Their newest addition is a three-month-old baby. She has never run away from home before and has always returned within a few days

The woman is said to have just eloped with a man from her neighbourhood. This is thought to be her 25th attempt at eluding capture.

"On September 4, when I arrived home from a motor garage, I didn't locate my wife," her husband, a driver, recalled. She had fled after leaving my 3-month-old kid with a neighbour. She informed her neighbours that she was going to look for some goat food. She bolted, taking Rs 22,000 and other valuables from my home."
