Assam Women Police Hold Child Protection Awareness Drive at Amchang Tea Estate School

The session focused on the harmful effects of child marriage, the provisions of the POCSO Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, and child labour laws.

KAMRUP: In a significant move, Guwahati Police personnel from All Women Police Station, Panbazar, led by Inspector Bijoya Das (OC), conducted a 1.5-hour awareness session at Amchang Tea Estate Model High School for students of Classes VIII, IX, and X.

The session focused on key child protection issues, including the harmful effects of child marriage, the provisions of the POCSO Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, child labour laws, and other child-related concerns.

Additionally, students were also sensitised about important helpline numbers: 1930 – for financial fraud, 112 – Emergency Response Support System, 1098 – Child Helpline, 181 – Women Helpline, Empowering Youth, and Building the Nation.

Meanwhile, Nokhyotro conducted an educational awareness programme on July 13 at Barbaruah tea estate under the guidance of Abhijit Chakravarty, a core member of the organisation. The event was organised by Anshuman Chakraborty, and 18 dedicated interns currently undergoing training with the NGO participated.

The programme involved an intensive door-to-door campaign in the tea garden area, where the team interacted directly with local families. The primary aim was to raise awareness about the importance of education in personal, intellectual, spiritual, and societal growth.

 Established in December 2024, Nokhyotro – A Journey of Light is an emerging non-governmental voluntary organisation dedicated to community uplift through education and awareness. Since its inception, the members of Nokhyotro have been actively involved in spreading awareness on various social issues, especially focusing on education, creativity, and holistic child development.
