GOALPARA: The police have recovered the body of a young woman from the driver's seat of a car in Panchratna, Goalpara district, early this morning. Officers suspect she was murdered, and the perpetrator attempted to mislead investigators by portraying her as a widow.
The deceased has been identified as Shaleha Begum, a resident of Boko in Kamrup district. Investigators confirmed her identity through a PAN card found at the scene.
Authorities have taken the body into custody and started a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death. Further details are awaited as police continue their probe.
In another similar incident, the body of a 22-year-old woman was found in a river in Assam’s Dibrugarh district earlier on January 13, four days after she had gone missing. Police said that the body was sent for post-mortem the same day, and further investigation is underway. One person has been detained in this connection, police said.
There were protests by locals, including the family members of the victim, in front of the Dibrugarh Lahowal Police Station demanding the arrest of the accused. According to the victim’s family members, she went missing on January 9, and her body was found floating in a river on January 13.
