HOJAI: A horrific incident unfolded last night at around 1:30 AM when a man was suddenly attacked outside an HP Petrol Pump near the National Highway at Bilbagan in Assam's Hojai district.
Seven or eight assailants of a gang mercilessly assaulted a man for no particular reason, hitting him with tools and forcefully manhandled him.
The miscreants exerted force to pull and drag the youth across the road, brutally bashing him with repeated kicks and punches.
The young victim has been identified as Nawaz Uddin who became a soft target for the attackers. In an attempt to take his life, the gang threw him in front of a moving truck.
Eyewitnesses came to the rescue as they intervened at the right time to save the victim's life. The attack was reportedly orchestrated by a suspect going by the name of Abul Hussain and his accomplices Bilal Uddin and Shamsuddin.
However, the identity of the rest of the gang members have not yet been ascertained. The investigators have said that all evidence suggests that they came from Lanka.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Ri-Bhoi police arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly beating up a woman airport staffer near Umroi Airport in Meghalaya.
The accused Kyrshanlang Marngar, resident of Dongrudwah, Nongrah, Umroi, allegedly assaulted 27-year-old Ellana Lyngdoh Mawphalang while she was going to work.
