BOKAKHAT: A youth tragically drowned while bathing in the Deopani River at Kuthari in Kaziranga. According to reports, Montu Choudhury (34 years), a resident of Kuthari near the Kaziranga National Park, had gone to take a bath in the unfamiliar Deopani river along with two of his companions on Saturday afternoon.
While bathing, Montu suddenly went missing. Although a search was conducted for him on Sunday, no trace was found before nightfall. Today, personnel from the Disaster Management Department continued the search in the deeper parts of the Deopani river and recovered Montu’s lifeless body.
Locals stated that none of the three friends knew how to swim. The Bagori police took charge of the body on Monday, conducted a post-mortem examination, and handed it over to the family.
Montu, a carpenter by profession, is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. His untimely death cast a shadow of grief over the area, as he was known to be well-liked by everyone in the community.
