GUWAHATI: While popular YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia (Beer Biceps), Ashish Chanchlani, Samay Raina, and others are facing backlash for purportedly promoting obscenity, another YouTuber from Assam, Abhishek Kar, has been summoned and interrogated over derogatory remarks about women and black magic during a YouTube podcast.

The Assam CID summoned Kar for questioning in Guwahati after his statements sparked massive outrage, with even Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma taking note and directing police action.

The controversy erupted after Kar, while appearing on Riya Upreti's podcast, claimed that women from Mayong, Assam, practice black magic and can turn men into goats before seducing them. His statement was met with severe backlash from netizens and the people of Assam, who criticized the stereotyping and misinformation about the state's culture.

"A video from a YouTube channel named Riya Upreti is in circulation where an individual named Abhishek Kar is seen making unacceptable comments on Assam's history and traditions. Appropriate action may be initiated against the said individual for spreading misinformation," the Chief Minister's office stated.

Following his questioning by CID in Guwahati, Kar has been summoned again on February 11 for further interrogation. In response to the backlash, he issued a public apology. Kar has 1.86 million YouTube subscribers and 2.9 million Instagram followers.
