Assam's Shivangi Sarma on a high after adding 5th gold to her kitty at Khelo India Games

GUWAHATI: Assam's Shivangi Sarma has won another gold medal at Dr. Zakir Hussain Aquatic Centre during Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati. This takes her total medal tally to 5 gold and 2 silver.

Shivangi was a favourite to win the 100mts Freestyle event’s gold and she performed as per the expectation. From the very beginning, she took lead and maintained it until the end. The swimmer took 59.26 sec to complete the event.

She also won a gold medal in the 200 m Freestyle swimming event in the ongoing games in Guwahati.

The 17-year-old won the Girls U21 400m Freestyle with timing of 4:34.55 to bag the top medal.

"I am very fortunate to have the full support of my parents, and I believe that I have been able to win the medals here because of the hard work I have put in on a consistent basis. I am also happy to have won my third gold medal for Assam, it is something that I have always wanted to do. However, looking at the bigger picture, it is just the start for me, and I aim to represent India at many international competitions, and bring laurels to the nation," the energetic swimmer said, according to kheloindia.gov.in.

Shivangi had won her first two gold medals in the Girls U21 200m Freestyle and Girls U21 800m Freestyle event.

"It’s a great feeling that the entire crowd and the local officials are behind me. The atmosphere is electrifying, inspiring me to perform," she had said during an interview with The Sentinel.
