KOKRAJHAR: In a major security operation, Assam's Special Task Force, in coordination with Kokrajhar Police, conducted a raid and search operation at Namapara, Kokrajhar, on the night of December 24, 2024, under 'Operation Praghat.'

The operation was executed successfully, foiling a planned terror attack orchestrated by extremist elements aligned with a Global Terrorist Organisation. STF ensured timely action which prevented a grave threat to national security.

The operation was in connection with an ongoing investigation into STF-PS Case No. 21/2024, which was registered on December 10, 2024, relating to members of the ABT/AQIS terrorist group. During the investigation, eight jihadi cadres were arrested, and based on their interrogation, the STF intensified its efforts.

As a result, two additional individuals were apprehended during the operation. They were identified as Abdul Zaher Sheikh, a resident of Joypur Namapara, and Sabbir Mirdha, who was residing in Kachipara Bazar, Kokrajhar, at the house of Osman Ali.

During the subsequent search, the STF uncovered a massive cache of arms, ammunition, and other materials used in the making of explosive devices. The items seized included four handmade rifles designed to resemble AK-47s, 34 live rounds of ammunition, 24 blank cartridges, a pair of un-primed IEDs, a handmade grenade, and several detonators.

Further, the STF recovered electronic switches, the iron cases to make the IEDs, many wires, and explosive material used in firecrackers. These materials were designed to be used for terror attacks that the arrested persons along with their handlers based at Bangladesh had planned.
