Asst GM, (T&C) Division, APDCL, Tezpur, caught red handed while taking bribe of Rs 80,000

Guwahati: In an incident, the Asst. General Manager, Testing & Commissioning (T&C) Division, APDCL, Tezpur, has been caught red-handed by the team of Assam Anti Corruption Bureau, led by a DySP, while the AGM was accepting a Bribe amount of Rs. 80,000 from complainant Diganta Goswami, Electrical Contractor, in the KF Bar Cum Restaurant, Mission Chariali, Tezpur on Friday evening.

The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused by the ACB team arrested accused identified as Prakash Ranjan Dutta.

The accused along with co-accused Jatin Kr Dhekial Phukan, Age 58 yrs, S/o Lt. Dineswar Dhekial Phukan, Asstt. Manager, T&C Div, APDCL, Tezpur, had demanded a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 for giving clearances for installing a Solar Meters Systems and to activate it at the manufacturing Unit of Dabur India Ltd., Ghoramari, Balipara, Tezpur. Later the amount had been negotiated down to Rs. 80,000/-.

The complainant was not willing to pay the bribe amount and had approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption, Assam and a case was registered to vide ACB PS Case No. 14/2019 U/S 7(a)/13(1)(b)/13(2) of PC Act on 5th November 2019.

The accused Prakash Ranjan Dutta had called the complainant for handing over the bribe amount on 6th December 2019 evening and a trap was laid by the ACB team and the accused was caught red-handed in possession of the bribe amount.

Based on available evidence, the FIR named co-accused Shri Jatin Kr Dhekial Phukan, Asstt. Manager, T&C Div, APDCL, Tezpur, was today examined by ACB officials at his temporary residence situated at Dimaruguri, Nagaon for his involvement in demand of bribe from the complainant. Later he was arrested for his involvement in the case, after observing proper formalities.

Both the arrested accused shall be forwarded before the Court of Special Judge, Assam at Guwahati today.
