DOOMDOOMA: The two-day long State level conference of Assam Village Defence Organization (AVDO) on the occasion of its 76th Foundation Day held at Doomdooma College playground came to an end on Wednesday evening.
The event began on Tuesday with the registration of delegates and inauguration of the delegates’ camp at Doomdooma College by IGP Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, Chief Controller of AVDO.
The delegates’ session held in the evening was chaired by the Chief Advisor of AVDO Ranjeet Mazumder and was attended by IGP and the Chief Controller of AVDO Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, Advisor of AVDO Dr. Partha Pratim Das and Superintendent of Police (SP), Tinsukia Gaurav Abhijit Dilip.
The delegates raised various problems and inconveniences faced by them in discharging their duties. The Delegates’ Session was followed by a cultural programme, which was inaugurated by Jhumoir Samrat Padmashree Dulal Manki.
The conference was attended by over 1300 delegates, Deputy Advisors, Circle Organizers of AVDO from various districts of the state.
The second day’s programme began with the hoisting of AVDO flag by State Minister for Home, Labour Welfare, Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare Rupesh Gowala. It was followed by Smriti Tarpan initiated by Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah.
A colourful cultural procession brought out on the occasion was inaugurated by the State Minister for Home, Labour, Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare Rupesh Gowala. Over two thousand people including various cultural troupes participated in the procession.
Minister Rupesh Gowala, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Tinsukia MLA Sanjay Kishan and many other dignitaries also took part in the cultural procession. The open session of the event held in the afternoon was chaired by senior journalist and former president of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha Arjun Baruah.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ashok Singhal attended the open session as chief guest. Addressing the gathering Minister Singhal appreciated the role of AVDO in maintaining the law and order situation in the state as a strong wing of the Assam Police. Singhal along with the other dignitaries also inaugurated the souvenir published on this occasion under the editorship of Prakash Dutta and Dinesh Goyal.
Local MLA and Assam Minister for Home, Labour Welfare and Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare department Rupesh Gowala in his speech told that the State government had plan for modernization of the AVDO.
