Axam Xahitya Xabha founder Sarat Chandra Goswami Remembered in Dhubri

DHUBRI: Founder of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), Sarat Chandra Goswami’s memorial day was observed with a day-long programme under the joint auspices of Dhubri and Chapor Sahitya Sabha at Chapor Xahitya Xabha Bhawan on Wednesday. Goswami was founder Pradhan Sachib (chief secretary) of the Xabha and had made immense contribution in framing and shaping the Xabha. His literary works that enriched Assamese literature were recalled by observing as smriti divas (memorial day).

Speaking as the chief guest, renowned litterateur and researcher Dr. Robin Das highlighted the contribution of Goswami and said that he was a simple man with strong will and determination. “Goswami is one of the colossal and tallest figures in AXX and he served the AXX with utmost sincerity and dedication. It was he who framed and shaped the AXX in the initial years. Goswami will always be remembered for his contribution to this literary institution,” Dr. Das said.

Dr. Das in his deliberation said that all the branches and sub-branches of AXX across the State were still functioning in the way he had shown and were marching forward with his ideologies and principles. The memorial day meeting was also addressed by president of Dhubri Zila (district) Xahitya Xabha, Dr. Upendrajit Sarma, vice-president of Dhubri Zila (district) Xahitya Xabha, Ohid Khan (Paris) and lecturer of Ratnapith College, Sheikh Hedayatulla.

In the meeting, journalist Tilak Prasad was felicitated for his contribution in the field of reporting. Earlier, the AXX flag was hoisted followed by floral tribute at the portrait of Sarat Chandra Goswami. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Upendrajit Sarma.
