DIGBOI: Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, accompanied by DC Tinsukia Swapneel Paul IAS, Margherita Co-District Commissioner Parikshit Thoudam IAS, Rupjyoti Barua, the Executive Director (F&A) Oil India Limited, and TC Ranjith Ram IFS the DFO Digboi Forest Division, inaugurated a bambusetum and Dehing Patkai Eco-Discovery Centre here at Digboi Bogapani-based Forest Arboretum premises in Assam’s Tinsukia District today afternoon. The Centre, also known as a pictorial hub with knowledge, information and statistics on flora and fauna kingdom, is a facility designed to educate visitors about the environment, ecology, and sustainability.
The concept, being pioneered by the visionary leader of the Forest Division TC Ranjith Ram, has been an outcome of the collective support and collaboration of the district administration and Oil India Limited under its CSR Green Initiatives - OIL VASUNDHARA.
“The center features interactive exhibits, nature trails, and hands-on activities that promote awareness of conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable practices,” said DC Tinsukia Swapneel Paul adding, “The setup is indeed uniqueness added to the district.”
The top administrator greatly hailed and appreciated the DFO Digboi for the innovative concept terming the centre as a permanent asset attached to the district. I have never heard about or seen any bambusetum before, said the DC, appreciating the efforts of the department.
Digboi MLA Suren Phukan also spoke highly about the benefits of the centre in regard to creating awareness among the people on forestry and wildlife.
The center, almost resembling a botanical garden, also absorbs topics like local ecosystems and wildlife, sustainable living, climate change and its impacts on conservation efforts and eco-friendly practices.
Bambusetum, as the word denotes, exhibits about fifty different species or varieties of bamboo cultivated locally. Notably, the interior of the centre is furnished artistically with bamboo products. The DFO Digboi meanwhile urged all the stakeholders to encourage the school students to visit the centre, enriching them with the knowledge therein.
