Besides Meghashree Borah, three other meritorious students from Lakhimpur make it to top 10 positions

LAKHIMPUR: Bringing laurels to Lakhimpur, three meritorious students bagged the 5th and 7th rank in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination this year, besides Meghashree Borah, the topper. They are Tuhsif Tamanna Rahman, Aloy Burhagohain and Deepjyoti Sarmah of St. Mary’s School, North Lakhimpur. As per the result declared on Wednesday, Tuhsif Tamanna Rahman secured the 5th rank while Aloy Burhagohain and Deepyoti Sharmah secured 7th position.

Tushif Tamanna achieved a grand total of 589 with 98.16 per cent, scoring 98 in English, 98 in Assamese, 100 in General Mathematics, 98 in General Science, 97 in Social Science and 98 in Advance Mathematics. He is the son of Tamizur Rahman, former Principal of Nakari HS School, and Bandana Konwar, resident of Moidaoamia in North Lakhimpur town. Tuhsif will take admission in Sunrise Academy in North Lakhimpur for further studies. He wants to become an efficient engineer. He studied for 4-5 hours in a day and took tuition in General Mathematics in order to prepare for the HSLC exam. He attributed his success to the encouragement from his mother, cousin Mijanur Rahman, other members of the family and the teachers of his school. He likes to play cricket during his leisure time. His twin brother Tuhsin Tamanna Rahman also passed the HSLC exam with flying colour securing 96 percentage from the same school.

On the other hand, Aloy Buragohain secured a grand total of 587 marks with 97.83 percent. He scored 100 in English, 96 in Assamese, 100 in General Mathematics, 98 in General Science, 93 in Social Science and 100 in Advanced Mathematics. He is the younger son of Dhiren Kumar Buragohain, Gram Sevak, and Baby Buragohain, who live in Ward No. 10 (Milan Nagar) in North Lakhimpur town. Aloy wants to be a doctor in future to serve the society. With this aim, he will study Science in Cotton College in Guwahati. He studied 6-7 hours before his exam. He took tuition in all subjects except Social Science. His hobby is to read books, play the guitar and sing. He said that his parents, elder sister Arpita and his teachers were behind his success.

Deepjyoti Sharmah scored 97 in English, 98 in Assamese, 100 in General Mathematics, 100 in General Science, 94 in Social Science and 98 in Advanced Mathematics with a grand total of 589. His father Dilliram Sharmah is a teacher at Bogolijan High School while mother Manju Devi Sharmah is also teacher at Rajgarh Bogibil High School. They are the residents of Bhupen Hazarika Path, at Ward No. 1(Nakari) in North Lakhimpur town. He, who is not at home at present, is doing IIT coaching at Allen Career Institute at Kota, Rajasthan with an aim to be an engineer. His father told media persons that Deepjyoti was punctual and regular in his studies. He has interest in playing cricket and anchoring programmes and gathered experience in the field of these arts. He took tuitions in every subject to prepare for the exam.

Out of the students who appeared in the exam from North Lakhimpur St. Mary’s High School, 38 students secured distinction and 33 star marks. Total 122 students got first division while nine students passed the exam in second division. Headmistress Sonia Joseph congratulated all the successful students.

Total 68.62 per cent students of Lakhimpur district showed positive performance in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam. On the other hand, 62.87 per cent students of the district passed the Assam High Madrassa exam conducted by the same Board.

As per report, a total of 16,348 students appeared for the HSLC exam from the district this year. Out of them, 2,023 students secured first division, 3,932 students secured second division while 11,221 students passed the exam in third division. On the other hand, a total of 579 students appeared for the AHM exam, out of which 27 students bagged first division, 144 got second division and 193 students got third division.
