GAURISAGAR: The 16-day gas leak incident from the RDS-147 (A) of Bhatiapar Barichuk oilfield ended on Friday. As soon as success in oil capping operations was declared, Bhatiapar Toilya Kshetra Sangram Samiti organized a press meet. In the meet, Secretary Anup Chetia and President Sailen Barua briefed that Krishna Agarwal, the proprietor of SK Petro, was responsible for the incident and that despite a busy schedule, the Chief Minister of Assam arrived at Bhatiapar but Agarwal did not stand beside the people for even a single day after the leak. They said that Agarwal did not even provide a bottle of water to the affected people.

Chetia and Baruah demanded the arrest of Krishna Agarwal as soon as possible. They also criticized ONGC saying that the company did not have sophisticated equipment or technical experts to deal with such disasters. They further stated that the company had no social responsibility except to install oil fields in populated areas and loot the people.

Bhatiapar Toilya Kshetra Sangram Samiti demanded the ONGC authority to provide proper compensation to the affected families as soon as possible. They even criticized the report of Assam Pollution Control Board, saying that the entire area was filled with high-speed gas emissions and loud noise, but the pollution control department claimed that the air and water were not polluted to the point of causing any harm to the people.
