Biswanath district all set to conduct free and fair Lok Sabha election

Biswanath Chariali: The Biswanath district administration is all set to conduct free and fair Lok Sabha election. The district administration, along with 18 different cells constituted for the elections, is working round-the-clock for its smooth conduct. Though there are nine Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) under 9 No. Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency, only two LACs fall in Biswanath election district. These are 76 Biswanath LAC and 77 Behali LAC. This time, altogether 10 candidates have filed their nomination for 9-Tezpur HPC.

The total number of voters in Biswanath election district is 2,72,661. Out of those, in Biswanath LAC, the number of total voters is 1,54,659 (male 78,997; female 75,658; others 4) and in Behali LAC, the total number of voters is 1,18,002 (male 60,951; female 57,045; others 6). The voters of the Biswanath Election District will exercise their franchise in a total of 352 polling centres and out of those, 198 are in Biswanath LAC and 154 are in Behali LAC respectively.

In this connection, a total 1,688 presiding and polling officers have been appointed so far and their training is being held at Biswanath College Auditorium in a phased manner. With an aim to conduct the forthcoming Lok Sabha election in a free and fair manner, Biswanath Election District has been divided into five zones and 36 sectors.

On the other hand, the Election Commission of India has arranged connection of Voters’ Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system with the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Therefore, a number of awareness meetings regarding this have been organized in the entire district.
