Bokajan: The BJP candidate for 3 Diphu (ST) Autonomous District Parliamentary constituency, Horen Sing Bey said that the BJP was committed to providing equal opportunity for development of all tribes and races in the hill district of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
The former militant leader and BJP candidate said this in an election campaign rally at CCI Playground, Bokajan in East Karbi Anglong. Bey was accompanied by KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang, Bokajan MLA Dr Numol Momin, BJP East Karbi Anglong president Ratan Teron, KAAC EM Madhujya Dhekial Phukan, KAAC Speaker MAC Lonki Timung, MAC Mukut Mahanta and party workers and supporters.
Lambasting the Congress, the BJP candidate said, “The Congress agents are spreading a false propaganda of me being the president of the drafting committee constituted by KAAC for scrapping the electoral rights of non-tribals and preparing new set of laws for conduct of council election in the autonomous hill district of Karbi Anglong. The Congress has no other issue to contest election in the twin hill districts and has started to target me individually and malign my image. The separate electoral roll stir was led by 24+ organizations with J I Kathar as its advisor. The KAAC has formed the drafting committee following order of Gauhati High Court. J I Kathar is a politician and has been playing divisive politics in the name of 24+ organizations.”
The Gauhati High Court has directed the KAAC to constitute a drafting committee for framing new set of laws for conduct of KAAC elections, including preparation of its own electoral roll as per provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The non-tribal populace of the hill district are thereby reeling under fear of being isolated and neglected under this new system of governing the KAAC-administered areas.
Bey further said that the advent of BJP in Karbi Anglong had paved way for all-round development of the hill district which was otherwise not seen in the 15 years of Congress regime. “The prime mantra of BJP is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Bikash’ and none will be left out. We are committed to development of all tribes and races, irrespective of caste and colour, and pave way for a new Karbi Anglong under BJP government,” he said.
Speaking of the occasion, CEM Tuliram Ronghang expressed confidence of winning the Autonomous District Lok Sabha seat with a huge margin. “The mandate will see a record margin this time. Bey will raise the cause of Autonomous State in the Parliament and will also take up implementation of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) in the Centre,” he said.
