BJP-Led NDA Secures Dominant Win In Assam's Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Elections

The BJP itself won 6 seats, while its ally, the Rabha Hasong Jautho Sangraam Samiti, swept the elections with 27 seats.

GUWAHATI: In a major political breakthrough, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled off an impressive win in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections by securing 33 out of the 36 seats up for grabs. In the announcement made by the Assam State Election Commission, the BJP itself won 6 seats, while its ally, the Rabha Hasong Jautho Sangraam Samiti, swept the elections with 27 seats.

The opposition Congress party suffered a huge blow, winning only one seat, while independent candidates secured the other two seats in the council. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to the electorate via a post on X, highlighting the endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's welfare initiatives, particularly those aimed at indigenous communities.

In a related announcement, the Assam State Election Commission revealed the schedule for the upcoming Panchayat elections, set to take place in two phases across 27 districts on May 2 and May 7. The first phase will cover Upper Assam and Barak Valley districts like Cachar, Hailakandi, and Dibrugarh, among others. The second phase will cover districts like Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Kamrup.

Counting of votes for the Panchayat elections will take place on May 11, indicating another pivotal moment in Assam's political scene as parties gear up for the next electoral battle.
