Silchar: Though the date and fate of the Panchayat election still hang on uncertainty, the Cachar BJP has not stopped its preparation for the poll. The newly appointed district BJP president, Rupam Saha, said the party would pick candidates through surveys by expert agencies. Apart from the Panchayat election, the first-ever civil poll for Silchar after its upgradation from board to municipality corporation would also be held this year. Saha said the number of aspirants for both elections was huge, and hence the party would depute the agencies to conduct an on-field survey to pick up the best amongst the lot.
Saha, who was appointed two weeks back, had been attending Mandal-level meetings to gear the workers for the ensuing elections.
On Wednesday, Saha was felicitated by the Mandal presidents of the Lakhipur unit of the party. Minister Kaushik Rai, who was also present in programme held in his home constituency, too, asked the party workers to get ready for the elections. Winning the panchayat election would be a booster for the party as the next assembly election was also nearing, Rai added. He asked the party workers to strengthen public relations in their respective areas and make the people aware of the various pro people flagship projects both the Centre and the state governments had launched.
