Guwahati: In a sensational development, a dead body was found by the side of National Highway 31, in Barpeta Road of Assam on Friday.
According to reports, locals espied the corpse lying by the roadside and immediately informed the local authorities.
A large number of officials were called to an area near the road and soon an ambulance also arrived to frisk the dead body away as locals continued to gather at the spot.
After a preliminary investigation, the man has been identified as Naren Chandra Kalita, a resident of Nath Para in Barpeta Road. He was a retired employee of the Barpeta Road railways station.
Police sources said that the body of the deceased has now been sent for post-mortem to rule out foul play.
