Book of Assamese lyrics, Xur eti Deana released in Margherita

Dibrugarh: Xur eti Deana, a book of self-composed Assamese lyrics written by Dr Ranjit Dutta, retired GM of Coal India Limited, Margherita, was released in Margherita recently.

With this, Dutta, who had already made a name for himself in the world of poetry and writing, made a foray into the domain of lyrics and melody too. The book was formally inaugurated by one of the prominent music directors and lyricists from Dibrugarh, Dr. Prashanta Bordoloi amidst the presence of artists of Tinsukia, Digboi, Margherita, Digboi and music lovers. Speaking at the event, Bordoloi said that Dutta was an able administrator as well as an artist.

“Dutta has three Assamese novels and three compilations of poems to his credit,” he added. Bordoloi further said that Dutta was his student while he was teaching Sociology in Dibrugarh University. Senior journalist Ikbal Ahmed praised Dutta for his new endeavour, and at the same time said that Dutta’s wife, Abha Dutta, was quite instrumental in his success. He also recited few poems of Dutta that he earlier translated into Bengali.

During the event itself, several artistes and singers, including Pothar Xilpi, Rohit Gogoi; Neelu Das of Margherita; Purnima Handique of Tinsukia; AIR approved artiste Shivani Baruah of Margherita; Dr. Dipali Borjupari, Professor of Margherita College; Kamini Gohain of Tinsukia, and Dutta himself voiced the book’s lyrics in the form of songs.

Seeing the performances, Punya Saikia, a famed satirist writer spoke highly of Dutta’s book, and said that it left no room for any doubt that the book was not just about plain lyrics but ones which could be easily set to melodious tunes. Similar praises poured in for Dutta during the interaction session.
