JOYSAGAR: Another initiative for the development of Sivasagar Tourism has been taken by the State government. The proposed RCC bridge over Samarjan near Demow River under Thowra LAC area will finally be constructed in the current fiscal year budget allotment of about Rs 7 crore. For this a formal foundation stone-laying function was held by the Sivasagar Tourism Department in the Panidihing bird sanctuary area on Wednesday where Jorhat MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa took part as the chief guest. The MP said that the bridge would help villagers, local businessmen and students too as well as tourists who want to visit the bird sanctuary and Panidehing Forest.

The people of Thawra, Panidehing, Samarjan, Dhaiali and Rajabari have to face a lot of inconvenience due to no connecting bridge over the Samarjan. Thowra MLA Kushal Dowari said that the Panidihing bird sanctuary and reserve forest was a popular tourist destination as well as picnic spot in Sivasagar district. But as this important bridge had not been constructed, tourists and other people had to travel a long distance. But once the bridge was constructed within the stipulated time, all their problems would end.

Mahmora MLA Jogen Mahan also spoke on the occasion. Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner PG Jha, District Tourism Officer D. Mahanta and many other officials of the district administration were also present in the function.

Meanwhile, MP Tasa also laid the foundation stone for the construction work of the Dhaiali-Desang River Parghat PWD road which will be constructed with a fund of about Rs 13 crore under the State PWD road construction project. Besides, the MP also formally inaugurated the Bhupendra Kala-Krishti Charcha Kendra which has been constructed with State Cultural Department fund of about Rs 8 lakh in the Desang-Parghat-Rajabari area.
