KOKRAJHAR: In a series of programmes, the BPF on Tuesday staged two-hour sit-in-demonstration from 11 am to 1 pm at Government HS&MP School playground, Kokrajhar demanding the creation of Udalguri as 2nd parliamentary constituency in BTC. The demonstration was led by BPF president Hagrama Mohilary and joined by various cells and wings of the party including former Minister Pramila Rani Brahma.

Talking to reporters, the president of the BPF and former CEM of BTC Hagrama Mohilary said the BPF had been demanding creation of two parliamentary seats in BTC-Kokrajhar and Udalguri to ensure more political rights of the people of the region but Udalguri is not figured in the delimitation draft. He slammed UPPL and ABSU for playing politics over the issue and said they are responsible for Udalguri being dropped as 2nd parliamentary constituency because they are not taking the right steps to create Udalguri constituency despite being in the position.

Mohilary said Udalguri should have been created as 2nd parliamentary constituency of BTC as demanded by the people of all communities living in the region. There had been a delimitation draft of constituency in 2007 where Kokrajhar and Udalguri were proposed for parliamentary constituencies of BTC and BPF wants the creation of two MP seats as per the spirit of delimitation draft of 2007, he said adding that the BPF will pressurize the EC to create Udalguri as 2nd parliamentary seat before the finalization of constituency.

On the withdrawal of memorandum by BPF submitted by them to EC on July 1, Mohilary said the memorandum was submitted by Gossaigaon district of BPF and they withdrew it because there had been certain mistakes. He also said they were clear on their stand but its UPPL and ABSU who have been playing politics.

Meanwhile, the vice president of BPF and former Deputy Chief of BTC-Kampa Borgoyari said there had been a clause in BTC accord in which it is clearly mentioned that there would be provision for maximum representation after delimitation of constituency in BTC and according to that spirit, the BPF has been demanding Udalguri as 2nd parliamentary constituency. He said the UPPL-led BTR council government could have convened a cabinet meeting on the issue if they were really interested and if the cabinet decision of BTR gets support from the State government, then the EC would be bound to look into the matter. He also said since it is the draft of constituencies in Assam, the BPF will submit its claims and objection in the last hearing on July 11. He further said the BPF was hopeful for creation of Udalguri as 2nd parliamentary constituency of BTC in the finalization of constituency.
