BTC chief Pramod Bodo attends review meeting regarding granting land rights in Biswanath

BTC chief Pramod Bodo chaired a review meeting held at Biswanath Chariali on Thursday regarding the grant of land rights under the Forest Land Rights Act, 2006.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: BTC chief Pramod Bodo chaired a review meeting held at Biswanath Chariali on Thursday regarding the grant of land rights under the Forest Land Rights Act, 2006. The meeting called upon the Forest Department and all stakeholders to take immediate steps for grant of land rights under the Forest Land Rights Act, 2006 and through some simplification process in accordance with the Government Policies.

It may be noted that there are 62 Forest Land Rights Committees under sub-divisional level SDLC (SDLC) located in Biswanath and Gohpur subdivisions and 54 Forest Land Rights Committees under district level DLC (DLC) to monitor the land rights of people living in forest land.

A total of 3989 applications have been received by sub-divisional level committees in Gohpur and Biswanath seeking land rights as on date. Out of these, 3,722 applications belong to individuals and 267 belongs institutions. Similarly, the district level committee DLC has also received a total of 3,450 applications seeking land rights as on date. Out of these, 3,066 applications belong to individuals and 384 are from institutions.

On the other hand, there are also 24 new proposals for the formation of a new Forest Land Rights Committee in Biswanath. Title Certificate of land is granted to the applicants at the end of scrutiny of these applications and claims under the Forest Land Rights Act, 2006. In today's review meeting, the Forest Authority was directed to resolve such new demands for land rights of the people living in the forest land of Biswanath so that the people living in the forest land are not deprived of access to government facilities.

Apart from BTC chief Pramod Bodo, Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Deba Kumar Mishra, Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey, MLAs of Biswanath and Gohpur subdivisions and other officials were also present in the review meeting.
