SIVASAGAR: The devastating floods that swept through the Dikhow River on July 19 left a trail of destruction across Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, rendering several families homeless and severely affecting agriculture and livelihoods. Amid ongoing recovery efforts, individuals and organisations from different parts of Assam and beyond have stepped forward to support the affected people.
The Sivasagar district administration, through its field-level efforts in rescue, relief, rehabilitation and damage assessment, has been working continuously to assist flood-affected families and help them return to normal life. Sustained coordination with various departments, voluntary organisations and donors has helped mobilise essential support for those worst affected by the disaster. Joining these humanitarian efforts, the family of prominent Charaideo-based businessman Dilip Gogoi has come forward to support the construction of houses for 20 flood-affected families who lost their homes in the floods.
As part of the initiative, Janmoni Gogoi, proprietor of Desang Resort and Desang Foundation at Sonapur, along with her daughter Sweta Gogoi, contributed Rs 5 lakh to the Sivasagar MLA towards the house-building initiative for flood victims. The Gogoi family has already provided relief materials and financial assistance to flood-affected people in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.
The gesture is being seen as an example of community solidarity at a time when many flood-hit families are struggling to rebuild their lives. Several organisations, institutions and individuals have also been extending food, household materials and other essential assistance to the affected population.
