Numaligarh: At a time when the State government’s ‘Clean and Green Village’ campaign and other green schemes are yet to reach the villages, the villagers of No.1 Pongka Grant village under Morangi Revenue Circle of Golaghat district are not lagging behind in keeping their village clean and green.

The village with more than 500 residents started a ‘Let’s make our village green-clean and beautiful’ campaign in September last year. The villagers took up mass plantation drive in which 1,700 saplings were planted. During public holidays, the villagers come out voluntarily to clean the pathways and to take care of the saplings. Villagers take utmost care in protecting the trees from withering. All the saplings are protected with green net shields.

Along with this campaign of making their village green-clean and beautiful, the villagers of No.1 Pongka grant will also publish a magazine Kasturi on October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti to attract the youths of the village towards socio-cultural aspects.
