Bongaigaon: “Cervical cancer is preventable and curable also. But India has the highest number of cervical cancer deaths in the world. This is due to lack of knowledge about the symptoms of this cancer,” said Dr S K Das in New Bongaigaon on Sunday at an awareness programme about cervical cancer screening, prevention and early detection organized by Bongaigaon Pain and Palliative Care Society in association with Swagat Hospital and North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union, New Bongaigaon BG branch.

More than 70 women were benefitted from this programme where several noted persons, including Rakhal Das Gupta, president of All India Railwaymen’s Federation, and Ashish Biswas, joint general secretary of NFRMU, were present. Rakhal Das Gupta said that such awareness programmes were necessary and NFRMU would hold more awareness programmes.
