Charaideo DC urges banks to open more branches in rural areas

GAURISAGAR: The District Consultative Committee meeting and the District-level Review Committee meeting for the quarter ending March 2022 was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner of Charaideo, Paul Barua at the conference hall of the DC's office.

Lead District Manager (LDM) Prabin Sonowal apprised the members present about the objectives of the meeting. The meeting reviewed the Credit Deposit Ratio (CDR) of all the banks as per the statistics of the quarter ending March 2022. While chairing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner asked the banks whose CDR was below average to improve their CDR and to submit their strategic plan for improvement of the same. The meeting also reviewed the achievements of various government-sponsored schemes such as KCC, PMEGP etc. The chairman and Deputy Commissioner, while taking strict cognizance of those banks which are not providing loans to marginal farmers as per the guidelines, said that the matter would be viewed seriously and directed the banks to improve their performance by the next quarter review.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the LDM to bring bank-wise data for the next review meeting so that their performance could be reviewed accordingly. The Deputy Commissioner laid stress on improving the credit flow to farmers under KCC and other farmer related schemes, and appealed to the bankers to work for the uplift of the poor and marginal farmers of the district. He also asked the banks to improve the CDR and thus contribute to the growth of the economy. The Deputy Commissioner stressed opening more bank branches in rural areas to benefit the rural populace. He appealed to the bankers to take up more Corporate Social Responsibility activities and community-based banking activities. The Deputy Commissioner also suggested the banks to plan loan camps for KCC for the poor and marginal farmers in rural areas and assured all possible cooperation on behalf of the district administration.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioners lauded the CSR initiatives of Punjab National Bank and Axis Bank in setting up of model polling stations during the last election. The Annual Credit Plan for 2022-2023 was also launched in the meeting. Additional Deputy Commissioner Jabed Arman, Assistant General Manager of Punjab National Bank (Jorhat Circle) Manjit Singh, Sayeda Hasnahana, DIPRO Charaideo and heads of various government departments and bank officials were present in the meeting.
